Jerry Maple

d. March 8, 2014

Jerry F. Maple, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, unexpectedly died on March 7, 2014. Ironically, he had successfully completed treatment for multiple myeloma and was preparing for a stem cell transplant in two weeks, only to go into cardiac arrest due to a pulmonary embolism. We rejoice with our part in the earthly life of Jerry, whose unwavering faith in God's plan in all things is helping us to accept what we cannot understand. His devotion to his Catholic and Italian heritage filled him with pride and gave him courage and strength throughout life. Jerry was the definition of a truly good man and outstanding husband, with a caring and uplifting spirit and sense of humor that endeared him to family, friends, and those he barely knew. Golf and Alabama football were his passions, and he poured love into both, which made for a lively marriage during football season. He adored dancing and was known for his skill at '60s bop to "his" music, particularly the Beach Boys and anything Motown. Jerry loved any beach, anywhere, and thought the perfect day was sitting in the sun by the gulf/ocean with family and friends, his music and a bucket of Coors. Jerry retired from Southern Company Services after nearly 35 years of service, making many lifelong friends and meeting Mary Jane, his wife of nearly 35 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his beloved brother, Ross. In addition to MJ, he is survived by their children, Jill (Maple) and Terry Denny; Jerry "Jay" and Anna Maple; four adored grandchildren, Liv Maple, and Trey, Collin, and Brynn Denny; big brother, Joe Maple, Jr. (Barbara); sisters, Sandy Knight and Lena Maple Frankl; the Maple extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who make every day with family a joyous celebration; and always, our precious beloved friends, who he always considered extended family and part of the celebration. Arrangements for visitation are on Wednesday, March 12th, at Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Trussville, from 10:00 to 12:00 pm; memorial service and mass at 12:00 noon. Memorials may be made to the Holy Infant of Prague Building Fund, in care of Fr. Bill Lucas.
