Jay Bailey, Jr. was escorted into the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. He was 85 years old and preceded in death by his parents, Jay Bailey, Sr. and Cena Jenkins Bailey and his sister, Betty Sue Tichnell. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marjorie Jane Tipton Bailey, who has been his tireless caregiver during his declining health. Jay is also survived by his three sons: Carl, Charles (Donna) and Paul (Cheryl); his four grandchildren: Claire Stewart (Lee), Chad (Ellen), Samantha and Jade and three great-grandchildren: Avery and Molly Stewart and one to be joining us in September, and many loving nieces and nephews. Jay enjoyed working and earned his third retirement at the age of 80. He was a long time employee of Conner's Steel and then SMI with his final employment being at Trussville Utilities. Jay loved farming and gardening and being with his family. He was a devoted member of Deerfoot Baptist Church (85th St Baptist) for over 50 years where he served as a deacon and enjoyed the fellowship of many friends. Jay's rest comes after many years of hard work, caring for family and friends and serving his Lord. He will be greatly missed. The Bailey family offers a sincere gratitude to the staff of Care First Hospice for their kindness, gentleness and heartfelt compassion they lovingly bestowed on us all. The services will be held on Friday, September 20, at Deerfoot Baptist Church, Dr. Roger WIllmore officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm with the service beginning at 1:00.
