Janet Lois Braswell Fulton, 84, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away June 12th, 2015, surrounded by her family. Born September 23th, 1930, Janet was raised in Mt. Hebron on Sand Mountain, the eldest of six children. After graduating from Douglas High School, Janet moved to Birmingham to attend nursing school. It was in Birmingham that she met the love of her life, Cyrus B. Fulton, Jr. Janet and Cyrus celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 10th, 2015. Married in 1950, Cyrus and Janet had three children: Juanita Fulton Gray (David), Rita Fulton Keyes (Dave), and Cyrus Brown Fulton III (Linda). By 1985, they were the grandparents of 8 grandchildren: Eddie Sharit (Lisa), Deanna Sharit Wilson (Jason), Brad Sharit (Ashley), Jennifer Irene Crook, Brook Fulton, Laura Crook Woodard (Nolan), Danny Fulton, Jessica Fulton Mosher (Jeremy). By 2013, they were the proud great-grandparents of 12: Emily Sharit Foote (Will), Molly Sharit, Gabriel Wright Moore, Zac Wilson, Lucas Moore, Bryce Kirk, Cleo Moore, Kinlee Irene Wilson, Mia Mosher, Benjamin Sharit, Flynn Woodard, and Anna Grace Sharit. In addition to those previously listed, Janet is survived by her brothers Robert Braswell (Nona) and Jim Braswell (Paula); her sister Carolyn Braswell Galloway (Robert); sister-in-law Mary Kate Fulton Rush; dear family friend, Kenneth St. John and countless nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her father and mother, Homer Winston Braswell and Gladys Irene Wright Braswell; her second mother, Bertha Mae Miller Braswell; her sisters Margaret Braswell Glassco (Odes) and Glynda Braswell Morrison (Tillman); her father and mother-in-law Cyrus Brown Fulton, Sr. and Leslie Brook Elkins Fulton; her brother-in-law Joseph Rush; sisters-in-law Alice Fulton Drummonds (Bob) and Betty Lou Fulton Bartlett (J.B.). Family was of utmost importance to Janet and she was a shining example of love, commitment, and support to all who knew her. In her 30s, Janet took up the game of golf and exceled as she did in all things. During her golfing career, she was women's champion of Inverness Country Club in 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1983. She was also women's champion at Riverchase Country Club for several years. In 1990, she was the Alabama Golf Association Women's State Senior Champion. Janet and Cyrus were also founding members of Cumberland Lake Country Club. In the late 1980s, Janet and Cy took to the road in their motorhome. They traveled extensively and explored much of the US and Canada. For 19 years they traveled with their dear friends, Bruce and Ann Vincent. The friends Janet made on the golf course and on the road are far too numerous to list, but each held a special place in her heart.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Galleria Woods for their diligent and compassionate care. Heartfelt thanks to Carol Janes for her dedicated care for the last few weeks. Visitation will be at 9:15 am with a service following at 10:15 am on Tuesday, June 16th, at her church, Riverchase United Methodist. She will be buried at Friendship Cemetery in Mt. Hebron (near Boaz) at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Riverchase UMC or Friendship Cemetery Fund, 525 Bohannon Road, Boaz, AL 35957.
