James Edward Walker departed this life on October 21, 2017. He was a resident of Flowood, Mississippi, and previously resided in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born on March 20, 1931 in Fayette County, Alabama. Known to his many friends as "Eddie," he was married to his loving and devoted wife, Kellon M. Walker, for 58 years. Eddie was a graduate of Berry High school, attended Jacksonville State University, following which he enlisted in the United States Air Force with active service as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War, stationed in Japan. Eddie was an employee of Alabama Gas Company in its Telecommunications Department for over 38 years. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham where he enjoyed working in the church library with the Children's Church program as well as volunteering and helping athletes in the Special Olympics program. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sophia Ernestine Patterson Walker and John Urban Walker, and by his three brothers, John Urban Walker, Jr., Robert Lanier Walker, and William Arnold Walker. Eddie is survived by his wife, Kellon M. Walker, daughter Kimberly Walker Hester (Lawson Hester), and two grandchildren, Ross Lawson Hester and Mary Patterson Hester. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, in Trussville, Alabama with funeral service thereafter at 12:00 noon, followed by burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, Mississippi.
