James Louis "Oogie" Vernon, age 80 of Trussville, AL went home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2015. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemial Bruce and Lillie Marguerite Vernon; brother, Frank Howard Vernon; son, Gordon Louis Vernon and daughter, Terri Vernon. Survivors include wife, Billie Berry Vernon and daughter, Kristi Roan (Eddie); granddaughters, JuliAnne Roan and Natalie Roan; sisters, Helen Garrison and Mildred Webb; sister-in-law, Louise Vernon. He was a long-time member of Roebuck Park Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Trussville where he started a Leadership Training class and was on several pulpit committees. In recent years, he enjoyed teaching and fellowshipping with the men of his beloved Sunday school class. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1954. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 42 years and was a part-time real estate agent for 6 years at Century 21. He never met a stranger and was a witness to all he met. Services will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church in Trussville. Visitation will be an hour prior to services. The burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. His long-time friends, Rev. Dewey Corder and Rev. Bobby Erwin will be officiating over the services.
