THOMPSON, JAMES CARL
James Carl Thompson of Birmingham died Saturday, February 16, 2013, atthe age of 86. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Thompson and parents John and Ella Thompson. He is survived by daughter Linda Applebaum; grandsons Jeremy (Virginia) and Matthew Applebaum;great-granddaughter Hannah Applebaum; his brothers Johnny and Buford(Bennie) Thompson and sister Willie Lou Lovelady. His brother andsister-in-laws have been very helpful and special to him: Earl, Pat,Donald, Judy, Jimmy, Jane, Frank, Jessie and many nieces and nephews.He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany, Japan, and Korea in the 107th trucking company deploying from Haleyville, Alabama. He has been active in the Birmingham Kelly Ingram VFW Post where he served as Commander in the mid 1990's. He was a member of the American Legion and a Shriner. He had many friends at the VFW that he loved. Carl retired from The Birmingham News where he worked as a printer. He was a devoted
husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend to many. Carl was
kind, considerate, generous, and went out of his way to help those in need. The funeral will be held at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville,Alabama, Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 2:00 P.M.
