James Nelson

James M. "Jimmy" Nelson Sr., age 89, a lifelong resident of Birmingham, passed away September 4, 2016. Jimmy was a graduate of Phillips High School in 1945, and an All American in Baseball in 1944. He played semi pro Baseball for the Durham Bulls where he met his wife Carolyn. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Center Point since 1954, was retired MSgt in the Army Reserves and retired from Stockham Valve, both with over 30 years of service and a lifelong Auburn and Braves Fan. He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Nelson, and granddaughter Shelly Martin. Chapel services will be on Thursday Sept 8 at 2pm with visitation from Noon until 2pmThrusday. He is survived by his daughter Leslie Martin (Ralph), son James Nelson Jr. (Cindy), 5 grandchildren, 8 Great grandchildren, and lifelong friends Alan Baker and Lee Johnson.
