James Thomas Mauk, age 70, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 in Birmingham. Mr. Mauk served as produce manager for A&P and Western Supermarkets after 44 years of service. He was a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church, member of the 2nd graduating class of Banks High School of 1961; served with the Alabama National Guard, federalized by President Lyndon Johnson to secure Selma to Montgomery March in 1965; Master Mason Huffman Masonic Lodge #633. Mr. Mauk enjoyed reading, loved traveling to Gatlinburg, TN. Christmas was his favorite holiday, he enjoyed Alabama football and the birth and marriage of his daughter Wendy Faye were two most special events in his life. Mr. Mauk was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Charlie Mauk and Winnie Estelle Hazelrig Mauk; his grandparents, John Thomas Mauk, Maude Jane Parmley Mauk; James Oscar Hazelrig and Alma Laura Noble Hazelrig; his brother, Charles Albert Mauk and brother-in-law, Robert Stephen Reed, Jr.. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Faye Richards Mauk; his daughter, Wendy Faye Parker and her husband, Scott; his sister, Nancy Carroll Reed ; his brother, Richard K. Mauk ; two granddaughters, Danielle Spann and Meaghan N. Sims. Memorial services will be 12:00 pm Thursday, May 15, 2014 in the Fellowship Hall of Deerfoot Baptist Church Trussville/ Clay Community. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm in the fellowship hall. Jefferson Memorial East directing the services.
