James "Jim" Harvey, also known to his grandchildren and their friends as "Poppy", age 69 of Springville, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 after a 2 year battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfred P. Harvey. He is survived by his mother Gatha Harvey and loving wife of 47 years, Betty Harvey; son Richard (Mechelle) Harvey and daughter Sonya (Shane) Bates; 4 grandchildren Steven and Brad Harvey; Ashley and Christina Bates; sister Alice (Randy) Stone of Hueytown, AL; nieces Alison King and Randi (Greg) Passmore of Hueytown, AL; great nieces and nephews, Jeremiah, Grace, and Faith King and Ethan Passmore. Jim served 4 years in the USAF as a TAC missileer. He was a faithful member of The Church at Bradford Road, The Emmaus, Kairos, and Tres Dias Communities where he served with a compassionate heart for the Lord. He took great joy and was inspired for many years by the close relationships developed in his men's small groups on Friday and Saturday mornings. Visitation and celebration of life will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10:30am followed by his celebration of life at 12:00pm. Jim Harvey's celebration of life will be directed by Pastor Rodney Davis of The Church at Bradford Road and Pastor Jerre Rhoades of Clearbranch United Methodist Church.
