James Edward Harris, age 70, of Birmingham, Alabama met his Heavenly Father, October 22, 2015. Born May 11, 1945, he was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Hamilton Harris, Ruby Key Harris and brother, Larry Clarence Harris. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Helm Harris, son Joseph Nathaniel Harris, daughter Summer Harris Hancock (Todd) and grandchildren Charles Hunter Hancock and Andrew James Hancock. Jim was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church, graduate of Woodlawn High, alumni of Auburn University and graduate of Birmingham School of Law. As a solo practitioner for 40 years, he enjoyed performing in front of a jury, selflessly helping people out of their difficulties and into the right direction. Altruistic, generous and incorruptible, Jim spent his life helping the people of Birmingham as a lawyer, coach, and community leader. He also participated in numerous local and state political campaigns. He will be sorely missed by family, friends and his faithful dog Jackson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 12:00p.m - 2:00p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, Birmingham, with chapel service at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Society (pancan.org) or your choice of animal shelter.
