James Michael "Mike" Caraway, age 62, of Trussville, Alabama passed away on November 20th after surviving pancreatic cancer for over five years. Mike was born in Birmingham, AL on November 3, 1952 and attended Huffman High School. He graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1975 where he was a member of the baseball team and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. On June 3, 1978, he married Susan Ronilo and together they had three children. Mike taught and coached football and baseball at Huffman High School after college. He then transitioned his career to become a Financial Advisor at AXA/Equitable for over 33 years earning the professional designations of a Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter. During his battle with cancer, Mike was invited and served on the UAB Patient and Family Advisory Committee due to his never-ending positive attitude and commitment to patient care. Mike was a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church and a parishioner of The Church of the Holy Cross in Trussville, AL. All of those who knew Mike were aware of his passion for baseball and his love of working in the yard with his two yellow labs, Levi and Stella. Mike will especially be remembered for his ability to be a coach to everyone, not just in sports but also in life. Above all, Mike believed his greatest achievement was his family. Mike is survived by his loving wife Susan, their children Holly, Lauren Winstead (Rees), and John Michael. He is also survived by his father, Edward Hall, three sisters: Pat Strom, Becky Coleman (Bill) and Marcia Parker (Keith), and many nieces and nephews. Mike was the son of the late Jimmie Nell Caraway and the late Edward Caraway. The visitation and funeral celebrating Mike's life will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 Sixth Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203. The visitation will be at 12:30 P.M., and the funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M.
