James Thaddeus Burleson, 99, passed away at his home on Sept. 13, 2021. He was born May 14, 1922 in Marion County, to Will & Annie (Clement) Burleson. He was a member of the Clay Church of Christ & served as an elder. He retired from Southern Natural Gas as a Meter Tech. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Willie Mae (Howell) Burleson after being married for 64 years, his daughter Carolyn (Burleson) Oursler, his grandson Chris Oursler, his granddaughter Kelly (Oursler) Zentz, his brothers Lowell, Sherrill, & Oneal: his sisters, Emogene Anglin, Patsy Ruth Gardner, Ovalene Kennemur, & Mary Jo Hudson. He served in the Army, WWII for 4 years with an honorable discharge as a Technical Sergeant. He leaves this temporary life to his eternal home. He leaves behind his daughter Billie Ann Goolsby (John R), his son Lance Burleson (Debbie): his grandchildren, Steve Oursler, Jr (Mary), Lisa (Marshall) Reid, Kevin (Jenifer) Goolsby, Lana (John) Williams, Ryan (Kathy) Burleson, Keith (Herika) Goolsby: his great grandchildren, Michael Oursler, Michaela Zentz, James Goolsby, Penn Reid, Johnathan Reid, Mario Zentz, Savana Goolsby, Casey Reid, Garrett Oursler, Gracie Williams, Juliana Goolsby, Graycin Williams, Gabriel Williams, Emerson Burleson, Hannah Goolsby, Nathanael Goolsby: great great grandchild, Madison Oursler. Thad always enjoyed farming, gardening, carpentry, & playing Rook. He was a devoted Alabama fan. He lived a life of service to other people, hard work, and most of all his love for God and his family. Memorial service will be at 2:00, Monday September 20, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, AL, with a visitation at 1:00. Face masks & social distancing are requested. Three of the grandsons will officiate: Kevin Goolsby, Keith Goolsby, & Ryan Burleson. Mike Young will be officiating at the graveside service. Marshall Reid will lead the song service. The family would like to express their special appreciation to Patrice Taylor for all the love & care she showed our dad during his need of in-home care for over 3 years. She spent endless hours over and beyond in taking care of his every need. Thanks to the nurses & aides from Encompass Health Hospice. We’re so grateful for their compassion and kindness.
