Rev. James N. Baxter, of Birmingham, AL, went to his eternal rest on 8/30/2015, in Albuquerque, NM. Born in Lakewood, Ohio, and having graduated from High School in Detroit, MI, James served during the Korean conflict in Germany, a member of the US Army Quartermaster Corps. Following the war, James married Shirley Kimbell, of Northville, MI, and went to work for the US Postal Service as a mail handler and transferred to the Birmingham, AL post office in 1969,until he retired in 1986. James became a bivocational pastor while in Birmingham, and attended Southeastern Bible College. He served several congregations as pastor while in Birmingham for many years. James was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL. James and Shirley resided in Birmingham until early 2015, when they moved to Albuquerque, NM, to be nearer to family. Rev. Baxter is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley, their son David and his wife, Bonnie, their grandchildren Jonathan and Evelyn, and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation from 11-12, with service following at 12-1, on Thursday, 9/3/2015, will be at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. Rev. Joe Mills will be officiating.
