James E. Askew, Sr. "Jim", 87, resident of Cook Springs Alabama died Jan 23, 2011. Mr. Askew was known as "Squee" to his friends and "Big Jim" to family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Inez "Sis" Askew. He is survived by his wife, Becky Askew, Cook Springs, Alabama, one sister Bobbie Grier, Birmingham, Al., four sons Jim (Varina), Prattville, Al, Jeff (Dana), Pinson, Al, Mo (Kathy), Birmingham, Al, five grandchildren, one great grandchild. His extended family includes: two daughters, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy serving as a gunner aboard the battleship USS Pennsylvania. He retired from the City of Birmingham as a building inspector. Mr. Askew was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post 171. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00pm Jan 26, 2011 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Trussville, Al. Funeral services will be held Jan 26, 2011 at 2:00pm in the Chapel with Brother Richard Coggin officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Garden following the service. Family members would like to thank all at the Village at Cook Springs involved in any way with Mr. Askew's care. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
