Jack Gunnells passed away on June 30, 2017 in Daphne, AL. Born in Bessemer AL, he lived much of his early life in Gadsden AL. He served in the navy during WW2, and shortly after the war married Cora McKelvey and they had three sons. The family lived in Birmingham and Jack worked for the L&N Railroad as an engineer. Jack was a Shriner, and for a number of years transported children with severe burns to a special hospital in So. Carolina. Jack has always been active in the community. Notably, he was one of the founders of the local little league baseball park. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Cora (Tootsie) and his son, Jack Raymond (Ray). He is survived by two sons, James Daniel (Linda) and Charles David (Brenda), grandchildren Jason, Kevin, Beth, Kari and Jessica, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Viewing services are from 6:00 to 8:00 Wed, July 5, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens, 1591 Gadsden HY, Birmingham, AL 35235, ph 205-322-0543. The funeral is at 12:00 noon on Thursday. July 6. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, that a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or other charitable cause.
