J Smith

J.B. Smith, age 95, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at his home in Lakeview, Alabama. J.B. was born August 4, 1920, to William Miller and Mamie Ollie Wilson Smith. On October 9, 1948, he married Myrtle Osborne and to this union was born one daughter, Katherine Elaine Smith. Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy. For many years he worked for U.S. Steel in Birmingham, SECO Steel Company, and for Liberty National Insurance Company. He was a member of the Church Of God Of The Union Assembly in Bessemer, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother Florence Ardella Thomas Smith whom he dearly loved, his wife, one sister, Lillie Mae Melissa Smith Whitaker Wilks, and two brothers, William Richard Smith (Elsie) and Walter Ervin Smith (Carolyn). Survivors are his daughter, Katherine Larkin (Gerald), two grandchildren, Denise Graham (Blake), Gregory Scott Larkin, and one sister, Sara Frances Smith, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7pm at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at noon at Jefferson Memorial, with burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
