Howard Kenneth "Ken" Lauruhn, of Tarrant, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009, at the age of 63. He was a graduate of Tarrant High School. In 1971 he earned a BS Degree in Business Administration and then a Masters in Business Administration in 1975 at Auburn University where he played baseball. He loved all sports, especially Auburn sports. For many years, he umpired for various baseball associations. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity, and a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association. Ken served honorably in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corp. He was a Disability Review Specialist and Union Representative with the Social Security Administration where he was employed for 35 years. He received numerous awards and citations for his outstanding service to the Social Security Administration. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard F. Lauruhn. He is survived by his mother, Vida Polk Lauruhn; his sister, Carla Valdes; brother-in-law, Steve Valdes; niece, Ashlee Lauruhn Valdes; uncle, I.V. Polk; aunt, Vaudie Foster; love of his life and long time companion, Carole C. Massey; and his extended family, Carole's children and grandchildren; Tricia (Dennis) Love, Sharon (Edward) Lynn, Diane (Sid) Minton, Eric and Tori Love, Chase and Zachary Lynn, Alex and Braden Minton. Serving as pallbearers; Fred Williams, Wayne Sellers, Bill Baker, Wayne Owen, Tom Argo, Laurence Owings, David Pifer, and Gary Brewis. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church, 412 Cumberland Drive, Birmingham, AL 35206. Funeral services will follow at the church, with graveside service at Forest Crest Cemetery, 5730 Highway 78 East, Birmingham, AL 35210. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Ken's memory. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
