Homer A. Wesley, Jr. born October 13, 1920 in Hawkinsville, Georgia, Homer Wesley's 96 years spanned a world of change. A child of the depression, he moved with his family at seven to Alabama to build a blessed and wonderful life. He enrolled at Auburn University 1940 on a football scholarship. He left to serve in the Navy during WWII, participating in both the Allied invasion of Italy and the U.S. Pacific Expeditionary Campaign resulting in the surrender of Japan. He returned to Auburn to play football and graduate in 1950. He loved football and coached high school football for over 20 years. He finished his educational career as principal of several Birmingham schools including Woodlawn High School and Briarwood Christian School. While serving in the Navy he met and married Florence Gilbert in Philadelphia, Pa. They spent almost 50 years together before her death. He was fortunate to remarry Jewelene Looney in 1995. Both were long -time members of McElwain Baptist Church. They spent almost 22 miraculous years together. He is survived by his wife Jewelene Wesley; his sons Homer "Bucky" Wesley and his wife Marion, Gil Wesley, stepson John Looney and his wife Cynthia; grandchildren Jonathan Wesley (wife Tiffany), Joseph Wesley, Devon Whelan (husband Tim), Maggie Greene (husband Jason), Blair Wesley, William Homer Wesley, Allie Looney, James Stover (wife Janie), Stephanie Fay (husband Brendan), and great-grandson Jack Wesley Whelan. He is preceded in death by first wife Florence Wesley, sisters, Nell Moss, and Marion Wilkes, and daughters-in-law Debbie Wesley, Meg Wesley, and Lori Wesley. Chapel services will be Saturday March 18 at Noon with visitation from 10am until Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to McElwain Baptist Church. WAR EAGLE!
