Hollum R Cook (Hal) 81, went home to be with the Lord September 15, 2011 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Hal was born June 4, 1930 in Oneida Tennessee. He was a veteran of the Korean war and served in the Air Force . He married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Marie Parsons in 1951 and they have just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Most commonly referred to as her "honey". Hal graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville Tennessee in 1957. He has been a resident of Birmingham since 1960. Before becoming a successful blasting contractor for over 45 years he worked for Atlas Powder Company based out of Wilmington Delaware. Hal is survived by his wife Kathryn Parsons Cook and five daughters. He is preceded in death by his daughter Tammy Jo Taylor and his grandson Brandon Jo Malchus. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Patton, Sandi Yates, Deborah Hallmark, and Beth Butterworth. He is survived by 9 grandchildren, Jaime Richardson, Jeffrey Richardson, Jennifer Kimbrough, Stephanie Tirey, Traci Rauccio, Tony Reeves, Kathryn Adams, Lauren Butterworth, and Ami Butterworth. He is also survived by ten beautiful great-grandchildren, also a special nephew Bob Cook. He was an active member of Hunter Street Baptist Church, where he spent 20 years serving the Lord. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover Alabama on September the 17th beginning at 10:00 followed by a memorial service beginning at Noon at the same location.
