Herbert Henry Spitzer, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2011. Mr. Spitzer was a resident of Pinson, AL for 79 years and has made a perpetual impact on the community. A model husband, Mr. Spitzer was devoted to his beloved wife of over 58 years, Patsy Oden Spitzer. Together, they shared a model marriage and influenced others for the better. Mr. Spitzer was loyal to his community and is the founder of scholarship funds for both Pinson Valley High School and Locust Fork High School. He served on the board of directors for the Cattleman's Association and for the Jefferson County Soil and Water Association. A lover of sports, Mr. Spitzer played on the Whiz Kids Basketball team in his younger days. He was a faithful man, a hard working famer, raised in the United Methodist Church, and was always devoted to his friends and family. Mr. Spitzer was preceded in death by 6 siblings. Survivors include his beloved wife, Patsy Spitzer; brother, Raymond Spitzer (Ruth); and brother-in-law, Lindsey Oden (Peggy); numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Spitzer will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM, with burial in Marvin's Chapel Cemetery in Pinson. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5:00 - 7:00PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Pete Spencer, Parker Ball, Mike Darden, Jeff Hallmark, Charles Puckett, and Charles Lewis; honorary pallbearers include Gene Palmer, Bill Warren, Mike Dutton, Lindsey Oden, Ed Cowden, and Robert Brooks. Joan Pinson will officiate the funeral services.
