Henry Flowers Holman, age 82, of Trussville, AL lost his hard-fought battle with cancer January 22, 2011. He was born January 5, 1929 in Carrollton, MS to Melissa Augusta Williams and Dr. Charles Hinds Holman. He was a graduate of J. Z. George High School and Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1951, Henry joined Alabama Power Company as a junior engineer. He progressed through positions of increasing responsibility and was a manager in the Power Delivery Department upon his retirement from the Company in 1988. He was a founding member of Power Investors, a Stock Investment club sponsored by APC employees. Henry was a dedicated Bulldog fan and enjoyed cheering for the Dawgs at various athletic events. When he wasn't traveling to watch his beloved Bulldogs play, he could be found on the golf course. He was a long-time and devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church and was awarded the distinction of Deacon Emeritus in 2010 for his outstanding dedication and commitment. In his service to the Church, he was a Deacon, chairman of the finance committee and a member of the personnel committee, building committee and the 39ers. In his younger years, he served as mentor and coach of youth basketball and softball teams sponsored by Eastside Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Charles Hinds Holman, Jr., Lela Holman Tardy and James Judson Holman. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jimmie Ann Stanley Holman; children, Kenneth Edward Holman (Joni), Henry "Hank" Flowers Holman, Jr. (Deleslyn), Orlando, FL, Melissa Holman Marsh (David); grandchildren, Kenny Holman (Stacy), Jaime Fulmer (Shane), Joshua Ates (Sherri), Sgt. Jacob Ates (Kasia), Ben Marsh, Ellen Marsh; great grandchildren Hunter Fulmer, Hayden Cochran, Austin Ates, Paris Ates, Cameron Ates as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, January 24, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial East Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25 at 12 noon at Jefferson Memorial East, the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Eastside Baptist Church, 558 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL 35235-2498 or the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205-7014.
