Harry Stanford Gossett passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Leland Gossett, his mother, Mary Stanford Gossett, sister Sarah Gossett Tracey, sister Mary Ann Gossett Breedlove, and son Harry Stanford Gossett, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Dowdy Gossett, daughter-in-law, LuAnn Gossett, son, Gregory Lloyd Gossett, son, Timothy King Gossett, daughter, Mary Margaret Peterson (Pete), son, Thomas Leland Gossett (Debbie), son, James Christopher Gossett (Laura). He was affectionately known as "Daddy Buck" by his eleven grandchildren, Krista Townsend (Ashley), Jennifer Genereux (Peter), Lisa Smith (Donny), Kimberly Powell (Josh), Nicholas Gossett (Ekaterina), Chelsea Worthington, Eric Gossett, Matthew Gossett, Jacob Gossett, Lacey Gossett, and Christian Peter-son. He was blessed to be a great-grandfather to seven children: Emma Townsend, Lily Townsend, Lana Gossett, Seeley Smith, Michael Genereux, Rose Genereux, and Knox Smith. Harry was born in Portland, Tennessee on November 13, 1925. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1942. He attended Western Kentucky University on a basketball scholarship. Harry served in the United States Navy during World War Two. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1949 and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. Harry and Nancy Ann Dowdy were married in 1950. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 28. He retired from Commercial Credit after 35 years in management and earning several awards. He was a member of our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Harry was a scratch golfer, enjoyed playing Gin Rummy with his friends, and was an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan. There will be a funeral mass at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. A time of visitation will be held prior to the mass and will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Franklin, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 980 Huffman Road, Birmingham, AL 35215.
