Gunter Hoagland

May 22, 1937 — December 18, 2019

Gunter Lee Hoagland, 82, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on December 18, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, December 27, 2019 at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville, Alabama. Visitation will be held at noon on the same day. Graveside service will immediately follow. Gunter was born on May 22, 1937 to Amie Lee and Lecta Orene Hoagland. Gunter grew up in Leeds, Alabama. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1955 and immediately joined the United States Air Force. He served for 4 years and remained in the Air National Guard for 33 years.  After working with Godwin Radio, Gunter began a long career with Alabama Power Company in electrical engineering where he retired after more than 30 years of service. He retired in 1996. Gunter married Tassie Faye Gerodimos on May 27, 1964. They were happily married until her death. He was preceded in death by his father Amie Lee Hoagland; his wife Tassie Faye Hoagland; his mother Lecta Orene Hoagland; and his brother Allen Hoagland. Gunter is survived by his daughters Holly Hoagland of Chelsea, Alabama and Kris (Kenny) Allison of Springville, Alabama; his sisters Conda (Don) Davis of Leeds, Alabama and Bitsy (Joe) Daughtery of Chelsea, Alabama; his grandchildren Mackenzie Meeks, Grayson Meeks, Sam Wright III, Warner Wright, Hope Wright, Rafe Looney, and Tatton Looney and many nieces that he called his own. Everyone knew and referred to Gunter as “Pappy”, even his co-workers and healthcare professionals.  You see, Pappy didn’t have expensive hobbies or interests that divided his attention or robbed him of precious time.  His hobby was loving his family and others.  He was a loving father and grandfather that made each one feel special. He spoke words of life and not death to everyone who crossed his path.  He was the faithful friend and unexpected support in time of need.  He poured himself and his resources into the lives of others.  Loving, giving, helping, and supporting others was his life’s work.  Faithful and true in all that he did.  He especially enjoyed time with all his grandchildren and went above and beyond to create precious memories with them that would last a lifetime.  Pappy was an exceptional man, a gentleman, a prince among men that will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
