Gracie Tapscott

January 8, 1928 — January 21, 2020

Gracie Lynn Tapscott Grace, Nana to her grandchildren, peacefully passed away surrounded by family at St. Martin's in the Pines Healthcare Center in Birmingham on January 21, 2020 at the age of 92 years, due to complications after a fall. Mrs. Tapscott was born in Cullman County, Alabama, the twin daughter of Luther and Florence Lynn. She grew up in Dodge City, Alabama, attended Cullman High School, and retired from the Healthcare industry after many loyal years of service. She was a member of Valleydale Baptist Church.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Tapscott graciously gave her time, talent and efforts to her family and to helping others in the community. She was a skilled seamstress, as well as being a gifted cook. Her chocolate rolls, dumplings, coconut cake, roast beef and noodles were legendary. Gracie could also make anything grow. She loved growing her own vegetables in raised beds and enjoying her beautiful flowers each year. By far, Gracie's favorite activity was spending time and sharing stories with her family and friends.
Gracie Tapscott will be remembered for her sense of humor, adventurous spirit, love of lipstick, her caring way, her servant's heart and her unwavering love for her family. She will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Tapscott; daughter, Paula Tapscott Rogers; granddaughter, Meaghan Tapscott; and (9) siblings, to include her twin sister Lacie Harris.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Dye-Dempsey (Jim), Gary Tapscott (Renee), Beth Romano (Claude) and Greg Tapscott (Sharon), 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, her precious pup Meggie, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she loved deeply.
Visitation will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 12pm-2pm with Chapel services following at 2p. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
The family expresses its utmost appreciation to the staff at St. Martin's in the Pines for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Birmingham Humane Society.
