SHADIX, GORDON 90 1/2 years old of Birmingham passed away on October 10, 2011. Gordon was a mechanic with Mack Truck, W.M. Chambers and U.S. Pipe. He was a member of First Baptist in Chalkville. He served in World War II under the command of General George Patton, in North Africa where he received a purple heart. He was also a Mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Burl Shadix and a sister, Bobbie Capell. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Srofe Shadix; a daughter, Patricia Potter (Joe); three sons, Gordon David Shadix (Shelia), Daniel Shadix (Carolyn) and Donny Shadix (Robin); grandchildren, Dawn, Chris, Jody, Sherri and Sheryl, Sarah, Tyler, Mark, Emily and Nathan; great grandchildren, Bret, Dillon, Faith, Joe, Noelle and Light; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to American Cancer Society or Charity of your choice. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12 beginning at 11:00 AM with Chapel services at 12:00 PM and burial to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.
