Col. (Ret.) Gordon E. (Gene) Jones

Born October 12, 1936

Passed Away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 after a short hospitalization. He was retired from BellSouth after 38 years of service. He was an active prudential realtor for the past 12 years, and an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. He was also retired from the Alabama Army National Guard after 40 years of dedicated service, during which he was awarded numerous medals and honors. He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Jones, his mother, Charlotte Peoples, his sister, Becky Fischer, and his brother, Doug Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary, his son, David Jones (Kathy), his daughter, Jan Jones Tidwell (Barry), his granddaughter, Lilly Jones, and one "grand-dog", Phoebe. He is also survived by his mother, Ruth Jones Isbell and his two sisters Brenda Jones (Steve) and Debbie Greer (Kip), as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved by many friends and extended family for his warm personality, kind heart, and loving generosity. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 10:00am-11:00am on Thursday July 2nd, 2009 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. With a service following at 11:00am in the Sanctuary. A graveside service will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville at 12:30pm on the same day.
