Glenn E. Hand-Truitt, 72, loving husband and father, passed away after a brief illness on November 13, in Birmingham, AL. He was born September 11, 1941, in Birmingham, to Euclid and Ola Alberta (Ginn) Truitt. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1959, and from Asbury College in 1963. In 1968 he received his Master of Divinity degree at Emory University in Atlanta. In 1965, he married Barbara Parker of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and they had three children. The marriage ended in 1980. He married Judy Hand of Birmingham in 1993. He taught in the sciences from 1963 to 1965 at El Colegio Metodista in San Jose, Costa Rica. He served at several churches in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1968 until 1973. He worked at St. Mary's Hospital and Metropolitan Medical Center as a chemical dependency counselor in the Twin Cities, MN, from 1975 until 1982. He operated Judy's Plantscapes, LLC, along with Judy Hand-Truitt from 1993 until the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his children Cynthia Truitt Lynch (Tim Lynch) , Ginya Truitt Nakata (Ted Nakata), Jonathan Truitt (Tessa Peterson), and Christopher Garrison, and by grandchildren Liam, Maia, Kieran, Braeden, and Kai. A funeral service will be held at Covenant Community Church, 2205 3rd St NE, Center Point, on Saturday, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greater Birmingham Ministries, 2304 12th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35234.
