George Grubbs

d. November 6, 2013

George Travis Grubbs left this world to join our precious Gabe Taylor in heaven on November 6, 2013. Born January 1, 1933, he had enjoyed 80 years of a very blessed and fulfilled life. George Grubbs is survived by his sweet wife, Barbara "Bobbye" McCullar Grubbs, his son Joel Grubbs (Carol), daughter Stacy Clayton (Eddie), grandchildren Christina Clayton, Brandon Taylor (Marisa), Brentley Taylor (Lindsey), and Bryan Taylor (Tonya), and great-grandchildren Allie Taylor and Anna Taylor. He also leaves behind his best friend and brother Henry "Pepper" Grubbs. George was retired from his 26 year tenure as an Inspector with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy and iwas honored as the National Board of Pharmacy Inspector of the Year. Previously, he worked 28 years for the Birmingham Police Department and the Alabama Air National Guard. He was a dedicated, faithful follower of Jesus Christ and enjoyed many years of service in the church, most recently at First Baptist Church of Springville. His favorite areas of service were singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, ministering as a deacon and church league softball. George was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend, He spent many hours coaching little league baseball and served as both a backyard pitcher and catcher. He was a skilled inventor and designer of many interesting household helping devices which he enjoyed creating in his workshop. He proudly barbered his son and grandchildren, and was a "cool under pressure" medic when he accidentally clipped an ear. His musical gifts included playing the banjo, the clarinet, and the harmonica and he enjoyed a lengthy career in multiple barbershop groups as well as the Woodlawn Warblers. Time with friends and family was his joy, especially if it included partaking in a meal. George Grubbs was a kind, compassionate, fair, happy, humble man who had a passion for guiding those around him to a relationship with God.
