Gene Mcginnis

McGinnis, Gene Paul, age 75 of Springville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008 after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents Fon Cleo and Willie Gene McGinnis, and a brother. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Holmes McGinnis; four children, Dennis McGinnis (Sandy) of Locust Grove, Georgia; Shane McGinnis of Birmingham; Tim McGinnis (Margie) of Potomac Falls, Virginia; and Erin McGinnis Howell (David) of Springville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. McGinnis spent the majority of his life in the Birmingham area, graduating from West End High School, and Birmingham Southern University with a Bachelors Degree. Mr. McGinnis enjoyed a successful career with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. After retirement he served with the United States Marshal's Service as a Court Security Officer in Birmingham, Anniston and Gadsden. A decorated Veteran, Mr. McGinnis was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for service during the Korean War. Mr. McGinnis was a member of Crosspoint Baptist Church, Argo, Alabama; and a Shriner of Zamora Temple. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Highway 11, Trussville, Alabama. A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ryan Whitley presiding. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
