Gary Hood

d. May 3, 2015

HOOD, GARY AUSTIN, passed away on May 3, 2015 at the age of 65. A resident of Hayden, AL he was born and resided in the Birmingham vicinity his entire life. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, was an avid fisherman with an extensive knowledge of ancient philosophy and religion. He was a hard-working man, retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in 2005 after 37 years of service. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who lived an exemplary life, instilling in his children to always do the right thing and be the best person they can be. He lived in this manner, not expecting praise for doing so, and therefore his wish was not to have a memorial service commemorating his achievements. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 30 years, Cady Farmer Hood; his mother, Pauline Hood; one brother, Glenn (Alice) Hood; four children: Rachel Hood Rushing (Bryan); Matthew Hood; Bill Hood (Donna) and Abigayle Hood; five grandchildren: Hunter, Tanner and Haleigh Hood; Conner and Aiden Rushing. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his memory to The Shriner's Hospital at https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/donate . We want to thank everyone for the calls, texts, visits and gifts of food during this difficult time.
