Frederick Nevels

Bruce, age 90, passed away on September 18, 2011 at his home. He was born in Corbin, KY to Fred and Elsie Ryan Nevels. He was a WWII veteran. He met and married his wife Jennie Daniel on November 4th, 1944 while working on the Manhattan (atomic bomb) Project in Oak Ridge, TN. He retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as Division Credit Mgr. in Birmingham, AL, having also worked in Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; San Antonia, TX; Memphis, TN; Pine Bluff, AR; and Greenville, MS. He was a member of Grantswood Baptist Church and taught the Men's Bible Class. He also worked with young people in many churches throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Campbell. He is survived by his wife Jennie; son Charles (Sabra) Nevels M.D.; daughter Frances (Doug) Ewing; granddaughters Kate and Emily Ewing; grandson Eric Nevels of Topeka KS; step-granddaughter April (Jeff) McMahan; great-granddaughter Malinda McMahan; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on September 21, from 5-7 PM at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville. Funeral services will be on September 22, at 2 PM at the Grantswood Baptist Church, 4850 Grantswood Place, Irondale, AL. Burial will be at the Grantswood Cemetery.
