Fred Nelson GoodwinFeb. 12, 1931-Oct. 3, 2013went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at his home in Pinson. He was born February 12, 1931. He is survived by his wife, of 58 years Betty (Franklin); his daughter, Belinda McCullough (David); brother Shorty Goodwin (Bitt); sister, Margie Duncan, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Nelson Goodwin, his Mother and Father, Carlton and Katie Goodwin, and sisters Katherine Morales and Mary Frances Gray. He was a State Farm agent of 48 years and a former Birmingham Police Department of 11 years. He attended Jacksonville State University. He was well known in the BABF baseball family. He was inducted into the BABF Hall of Fame, He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies (minor league) before being called into the U.S. Army. He was an avid Alabama football fan. He was a member of the Hilldale Baptist Church where he served as deacon emeritus. He is a member of Masonic 97. He was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct 5 at Jefferson Memorial, Trussville from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Homegoing Celebration service will be held at Hilldale Baptist Church, 533 Sunhill Road Birmingham Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville.
