Frances Marlin

Frances Fay Aston Marlin, age 89, passed away peacefully and into the Loving arms of the Lord on June 2, 2014. Fay was born on July 2, 1924 to Henry Clay Aston and Ruth S. Ward Aston. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Hardy Douglas Marlin; one brother, Henry Ward Aston and great-granddaughter Allie Fay Laborde, son in law Russell Gannaway. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Gannaway and Nancy Sargent (Kent) both of Pinson; known affectionally as "Granny" to her four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her homemade gingerbread man cookies became a family tradition at Christmastime. Grandchildren; Brad Sargent (Ann), Laura Laborde (Jimmy), Angie Frick (Paul) and Tom Garvich, Jr. (Dana); great grandchildren, Mary Grace Laborde, Olivia Rose Laborde, Emma Elizabeth Laborde, Henry Douglas Sargent, Katherine Ann Sargent, Margaret Elizabeth Sargent and Aaron Cole Garvich. A life well lived was the life of Fay Marlin. As part of the Greatest Generation, she knew the importance of Faith, Family, being self-reliant and independent. With Hardy, the love of her life, by her side, they lived in N. Dakota, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Florida while he was in flight training during World War II. Each place became their home as long as the two were together. Being in church was always important to her. She was a member of Tarrant First United Methodist Church, from infancy, where she taught Sunday School, and held offices in United Methodist Women. She later transferred her membership to The First United Methodist Church of Centerpoint and continued faithfully with her church activities with her wonderful friends at the church. Fay was an avid Alabama Football fan and she and Hardy loved camping and going to the games in the motorhome. Always keeping family close to her heart, she attended activities and functions for her grandchildren and great grandchildren as often as possible. She created a home filled with love, good food and good times and is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with Hardy and all the dear family and friends she loved so much. Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched. For nothing loved is ever lost, and she was loved so much. Chapel services will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 12pm with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be from 11am until 12pm Thursday. Reverend David Commer will be officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Sargent, Tom Garvich Jr., Kent Sargent, Paul Frick, Jimmy Laborde, Henry Sargent, Aaron Garvich, Henry Ward Aston Jr. and Jeff Mann.
