Faye Dillard

Faye Holden Dillard of Birmingham, was born March 19, 1939 and went to her rest on December 7, 2021 surrounded by her loving children. She was born into a large family. She was a great storyteller and would tell of events from 60 years ago like they happened yesterday. She often told the story of how her sister complained that they might have had something if their mother hadn’t let half of Lauderdale county move in with them when times were hard. She never remembers her mother raising her voice despite a house full of people and hard times and it’s easy to see where she got her long-suffering kindness and great strength of character. She picked cotton as a child and was a tireless worker her entire life. For over a decade she single-handedly managed a bustling country grocery store next to Curry High School, working 13 hour days, 7 days a week, all while raising 4 active children. Even now, 40 years later, many former students who spent time at the store still recall her kind nature and easy humor with great fondness. Her whole life, people were drawn to her genteel character and sly sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie, daughter, Renee Mixon, son Ty Bennett, and great grandson Kiaran McKenzie. She is survived by children Jill (Jeff) Bearden and Jason (Jami) Bennett. She is also survived by grandchildren Jillian Pantazoplus, Tyler Bennett, Caroline Courington, Leah Bennett, Amber Bearden, Owen Bennett and Tony Bearden.

Visitation is December 10, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama.  Family visitation will begin at 10:30 am, followed by open visitation at 11:00 am.  The funeral will follow at noon.
