Heaven rejoiced as Evelyn Harris Scott peacefully passed from this world holding the hands of her children. There is nothing greater than to know your name is written in the Book of Life and it is without a doubt that Evelyn is now rejoicing in heaven, walking arm in arm with her beloved husband, Henry, of 54 years. Evelyn’s life was a testament of faithfulness to her God. She exemplified love, kindness, grace and generosity to those around her and always had a smile on her beautiful face.
Evelyn was born in Gardendale, AL, and grew up in a Christian home with the worship of God being the center of her childhood. Evelyn met the love of her life, having been introduced via a blind date meeting and it was love at first sight. She was married in 1956. Evelyn obtained her Dental Hygienist license and worked for Dr. John Gray, of Birmingham, until she became a full-time homemaker.
Evelyn found joy in simple things. She enjoyed times spent with her family and cooking wonderful meals for all. She enjoyed pretty clothes; she loved beautiful flowers, and she loved the color white. She loved hosting teas and showers for her friends as her family grew alongside her church family. She had life-long friendships with her Christian sisters.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Scott, Jr. She is survived by 3 children. Linda Waldrop (Van) of Raleigh, NC, Tommy Scott (Lynn) of Chelsea, AL, and John Scott (Rita) of Atlanta, GA. She was fortunate to have shared in and enjoyed close relationships with 7 Grandchildren - Andrew Waldrop (Heather), Christoper Waldrop (Layne), Tyler Scott (Cassie), Blair Ashley (Randy), Christina Gooden (Trey), Caroline Scott and Sterling Scott. The Lord further blessed her with 6 Great Grandchildren – Ava Waldrop, Jack Waldrop, Charlotte Waldrop, Harper Ashley, Luke Ashley, and Will Ashley. She is preceded in death by her father, George William Harris and by her mother, Doris DeMent Harris. She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Motes of Dallas, TX and Sara Lu Boerma (Don) of Rockford, MI.
Evelyn’s life is a testament to her love for God. She agreed often that she had enjoyed a wonderful life and was always thankful to God for how He had blessed and provided for her throughout her life. Evelyn never had a day where she was negative about anything. We never heard a negative word come from her nor did we ever hear her speak in any way other than positive about anyone or anything. She always had a smile to offer and loved to focus conversation on others. If one could be a perfect mother, it would be Evelyn Harris Scott, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Rest in peace and joy, knowing the bliss of your new eternal home with your Savior. We will see you soon!
