Evelyn Wilson

Evelyn Wilson, 91, passed away peacefully in Tallahassee, FL, on March 11, 2021. She was born on April 10, 1929, to Burl and Edith Creel of Kimberly, AL. After graduating from Phillips High School in Birmingham in 1946, Evelyn went to work as a telephone operator. In 1949, she married Samuel Edwin Wilson, and the couple raised four children in Center Point, AL. She served as a Sunday school teacher at Center Point Methodist Church, and also shared her time as a Boy Scout mom, Girl Scout leader, and Erwin High School football supporter and band chaperone. When her sons went to Auburn University, she became an avid football fan. Later in life, Evelyn returned to work as a billing clerk and formed additional deep friendships.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Bea Cotellis and son-in-law Andy; daughters-in-law Jolene and June Wilson; granddaughter Morgan Wilson; adopted granddaughter Janae Taylor, and nieces and nephews Carolyn Fowler, Sydney Norred, Becca Schuppener, Laura West, Mark Creel, and Sam, Jim, and Tom Moyers, Mary Walters; great-nieces and nephews Tony Viola, Christel Woods, Sherri Ikner, Jeff Fowler, Alex Ratcliff, Wesley Woodard, Samantha Alexandria, Evelyn and Madelyn Moyers, and Jake and Nikki Walters; and many much-loved cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving parents, husband, sons Burl and Bob Wilson, daughter Betty Wilson, and brother Bob Creel.

Evelyn was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and cared for the needs of her family and friends. She was so fond of dogs and cats that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alabama Animal Adoption Society at 2808 Crescent Avenue, Homewood, AL 35209.

Evelyn will be interred next to her husband and daughter at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Birmingham. Family and friends are invited to a virtual gathering to remember Evelyn-Mama Wilson-on her birth date, April 10, at 2:00 p.m. EST. We will share memories and celebrate her life. In honor of her and her appreciation of color, no black please.
