Essie Sims

Essie Olene Johnson Sims, 91 of Alabaster passed away on November 22, 2008. Essie was a member of Gardendale Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed a 40 year nursing career which included working during World War II for the American Red Cross and working in Oak Ridge, TN. Mrs. Sims also helped open Jefferson and Hillman Hospitals which are now part of UAB Hospital. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Mearlin Lee Sims and two sons. She is survived by her daughter, Jenny S. Bullard (Mark) of Pelham and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, family and friends. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or The American Red Cross. A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 1PM in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East with Rev. Lynn Bledsoe officiating. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
