Ernest Albert William Frankl II, 75, of Birmingham was born in June 1943 to Ernest and Ruth Frankl. He went to elementary school in Ansbach, Germany as his father commanded a post-war facility. He graduated from Jacksonville High School, and earned a degree at Jacksonville State University where he was a post Graduate English instructor. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army, serving one tour in Vietnam. When he returned to the US, he was an active member of the Army Reserves teaching Military Science. He received an MBA from JSU and a Law Degree from Miles College. He retired as a Lt. Col and remained actively involved with JSU ROTC program. Mr. Frankl worked for the Regional Planning Commission of Birmingham and later for the EEOC from which he retired. Ernie married Betty Priddy in October of 1988 and was an active member of Trussville United Methodist Church. He was a co-founder and longtime president of the Central Alabama Miata Society. He and Betty were also members of the North American Miata Advisory Council and the Peachtree Miata Club. He is survived by his wife Betty Priddy Frankl, his son Ernest Albert William Frankl III (Lena), daughter Tonya Swanner, grandchildren Athena, Caleb Parmely, stepdaughter Joanna, and brother George (Barbara). Many thanks to Ernie's friends for his final journey home, Dennis and Sarah Stone and Bobby and Carol Romager. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm Tuesday at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and services at 11am Wednesday at Trussville First United Methodist Church. Donations in his name may be made to Trussville First United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Children's Home. He will be remembered as a true patriot who loved his country, family, friends and most importantly, his God.
