Ermis Carpenter Wingard, born at home June 8, 1922 near the town of Wedowee in Randolph County, Alabama, the fifth of ten children of Samuel and Effie Carpenter, went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 7, 2015. Ermis was a devoted wife and mother, who helped her husband raise their children to fear The Lord and looked well to the ways of her household with willing hands. She was a faithful caregiver of her husband during his extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Robert Wingard, parents Samuel William and Effie O'Conner Washington Carpenter of Wedowee, sisters Mozell Carpenter, Louise Carpenter, Mildred Hester, and Sara Turner of Wedowee and sister Ion Herron of Woodland Alabama. She is leaving her three sons Robert Therron Wingard (Carol), David Russell Wingard (Joyce), and Keith Marlin Wingard (Joyce), eight grandchildren, Matthew Wingard (Lacy), Jared Wingard (Dawn), Nathan Wingard (Leanne), Natalie Bohannon (Kyle), Andrew Wingard (Brooke), Stephanie Williamson (Temple), Holley Wingard, and Zachary Wingard (Leah), 4 step grandchildren, Brittaney Feltman, Jared Feltman(Alex), Heath Feltman(Halley) and Nick Feltman(Briana) thirteen great grandchildren with one expected and four step great grandchildren and ,one brother, Samuel Carpenter, and three sisters, Sue Andress, Ruth Childress, and Joyce Davis. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, at 12:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation one hour.. before. Grave side services will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens following the funeral. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to South Roebuck Baptist Church or a charity your choice. The family would like to give special thanks to Kathy Anderton and Sharon Scott for their loving care of Ermis and their helpers and the staff of Affinity Home Hospice Services.
