Emmett Reese

February 28, 1935 — September 23, 2023

 

Col. Emmett James Reese, age 88, of Birmingham, Alabama was called home on Saturday, September 23, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents B.A. Reese and Vera F. Reese, as well as his brother William Reese.
 
Emmett is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Doris Reese. Emmett found his lifelong partner in Doris, and together they shared the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, and built a lifetime of memories.
 
He is also survived by his children, Glenn (Rhonda) Reese, and Emmett James Reese Jr; his grandchildren, April (Kevin) Dyer, Colt Reese, Alyssa (Franklin) Hunt, and Emily (Brandon) Frazier; along with 5 great grandchildren, Kingslea, Aley, Sadie, Braxton, and Reese.
 
Emmett's commitment to serving his country led him to dedicate 41 years of his life to the United States Air National Guard in the 117th Reconnaissance Wing, where he retired in 1994 at the rank of Full Colonel.
 
In his personal life, Emmett was a deacon and member of Connecting Pointe Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He also dedicated many of his years ministering and volunteering at the Camp Booth youth camp in Greenpond, Alabama. In his spare time, Emmett enjoyed flying his Mooney airplane and participating in shooting competitions with the Magic City Gun club.
 
Emmett will be remembered for his sharp wit, unyielding faith, and the kindness he extended to everyone he crossed paths with. His integrity and sense of duty will live on as a testament to a full life well-lived.
 
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Retired Air Technicians personnel at the national guard base, the Enhabit hospice team, as well as the members of Connecting Pointe Church for all of their support and prayers during his time of illness.
 
The service celebrating Emmett’s life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Connecting Pointe Church, 2301 Alton Road, Birmingham, Al 35210. Visitation at 10:00am. Service will begin at 11:00am with a brief graveside service to follow.
 
The burial arrangements are being handled by Jefferson Memorial, 1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham Al 35235.
