Emily Shields

Emily A. Shields, passed away on May 31, 2015. She was born in Birmingham, AL on December 28, 1929. She was pre-deceased by her parents William Gregory Shields and Edith Edge Shields and her brother, William Gregory Shields, Jr. She is survived by her sister Edith Shields Collins (Robert), and her nieces, Sherry Shields Lary (Dr. John Lary, Jr.), Rebecca Shields, and Tina Shields Koch (Richard Koch, III), and their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend and co-worker in Christ, Jackie Williams. She graduated from Woodlawn High School where she served as Editor of the school paper, The Tattler. She worked at Chicago Bridge and Iron from 1947 until her retirement in 1987. She was a longtime member of 85th Street Baptist Church and is currently an active member of Lake Highland Baptist Church. For many years, she served as teacher and shepherd of children at three different churches. She was an active member of the Woman's Missionary Union, volunteered with the Birmingham Baptist Association and was involved with numerous mission activities around the community. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4, at Noon at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, AL. Visitation will be held from 11am until 12pm. Her Minister, Dr. Jere Allen, will be conducting the service, assisted by Dr. Jim Auchmuty. Memorials may be made to Lake Highland Baptist Church 508 52nd St North, Birmingham, AL 35206.
