Elbert Hughes

Elbert Wayne Hughes, age 81, of Trussville, passed away February 14, 2013. He was a member of Liberty Park Baptist, formerly Woodlawn Baptist. Wayne graduated from Woodlawn High School. He served in the Korean Conflict and saw active duty in Korea for two years. Wayne was employed at Square D for 38 years and worked a side job at Fashion Dinette for twenty years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Nancy Ann Sanders, mother and father Dollie and John Elbert Hughes, brothers Forney Hughes Sr., Olin M. Hughes Sr., and Willie W. Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jean Hughes, children, daughter Jean Ann Free and son John Robert Hughes, sisters Dora Lee Brown and Johnnie Bell , also many nieces and nephews, step children Dianne Zanthos (George), Danny Davis (Susan), David Davis, Dale Davis (Darlene), and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday evening at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville from 5:00 to 7:00. Funeral services will be at Jefferson Memorial Abbey Mausoleum for family only Saturday morning at 10:00. A memorial service will be held afterwards at Liberty Park Baptist church at 11:30 for family and friends, Pastor Scott Guffin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Adult Ministry of Liberty Park Baptist Church. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
