Edward Coolidge Todd, 92, died June 13, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Hellen (Butts) Todd, daughters Tonnia (Todd) Maddox and Brenda G Todd of Birmingham, grandchildren Bettye Ann Mitchell (Mike) of Hayden, Tonnia Lynn Davis of Blountsville, William Roger Maddox Jr. (Julie) of Columbia TN, 8 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Gladys Rogers of Russellville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceasing him were his sister, Evelyn Todd, and brother, Carl M 'Billy' Todd. A native of Sylacauga Alabama, Todd was the son of Cecil Todd and Bessie Dykes Todd. He was a radio operator for the U.S. Naval Air Force during WWII. After moving to Birmingham in 1950, he worked at U.S. Pipe as an electrician, did radio & TV repair and eventually opened his own electrical company. He lived in Huffman for the past 40 years and was a member of Huffman Baptist Church and a former member of the Shriners. Todd was well-known in the antique car community, traveling around the country with his 1907 Duer. He enjoyed participating in the opening of interstates and led the prerace of antique cars at Talledega 500. One of his favorite activities was traveling the gospel music circuit with his brother Billy, a bass singer with the Florida Boys Quartet. Already in their 80s, the Todds could be found dancing three nights a week; they participated on one of the attempts to raise the Titanic since an ancestor of his wife went down on the ship. Visitation will be 6-8 pm on Friday, June 17 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, in Trussville AL. A graveside service will be held at Odena Baptist Church (115 Odena Road N, Sylacauga AL) on Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 pm with Rick Vinson officiating. Pallbearers are grandson & great-grandsons: Roger Maddox, Mike Mitchell, Brad Stanley, Steven Franklin, Darryl Stanley, and Hunter Stanley, with Ryan Crouch and Dylan White serving as honorary pallbearers.
