Ruth grew up during the Great Depression, the eighth of nine children. The family was poor, and she developed courage and a toughness of character often present among people who survived those difficult times. A beautiful woman all her life, she was also blessed with a lovely singing voice. After high school, she met her husband when she auditioned for his dance band. She attended the Church of Christ as a child, was baptized, and joined the Episcopal Church when she married, and in later years she enjoyed attending Sunday School and church at Gardendale First Baptist. She loved deeply and steadfastly. She had a true, Christian servant’s heart, and lived a servant’s life to the glory of God Almighty. She adored her family and always offered them her love, support, generosity, wisdom, and comfort.
