Owens, Drexel Lamar,"Dick", age 83, passed away on December 2, 2008. He served in the Pacific with the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Nassau during WWII and served with the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the 31st Dixie Division, member of VFW Post 668, and a Lifetime member of the Birmingham Elks Lodge #79. He retired from Self & Co. after 20 years, Griffith Packing Co. after 15 years and was last employed at Crown Pontiac Nissan, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife Christine Baxter Owens, his father Percy V. Owens, and mother Ethel Davis Owens, five brothers, Buford, Billie Paul, Wesley B., Donald and Hubert and one sister Minnie Ola Wambles "Sis". He is survived by his son Drexel Joe (Cindy) Owens, two grandsons Joshua and Jonathan Owens, three step granddaughters, Erin (James) Wright, Ashley and Allison Kelley and on step great grandson James Weston Wright all of Montgomery, one sister Nell Whitehead of Columbus GA, one brother Jimmy Owens of Jack AL and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be on Friday, Dec 5 at 12pm in the Chapel with a military graveside to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Trussville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. James Langston officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alabama Elks Association or ones favorite charity. Jefferson Memorial Trussville directing.
