Dorothy "Dot" Turner Batson

Birmingham, AL

Dorothy “Dot” Turner Batson, age 98, of the East Lake community in Birmingham, AL passed away on March 2, 2021. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to George Palmer Turner, Sr. and Dorothy Hays Turner. She graduated from Woodlawn High School. She was a life-long member of The Innovators Clas at East Lake UMC where she volunteered in the children’s ministries and the altar guild. During the earlier years of her adult life, she was employed at her father’s firm, Turner & Batson Architects, where she filled various roles. Dot served on the board of the Girl’s Club in Birmingham. Dot had a passion for caring and giving to others throughout her life. She held a special interest in all the children in her family, church and community.  She enjoyed visiting Lay Lake and feeding the birds. Dot was a wonderful wife, loving mother and devoted aunt. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years, S. Edgar Batson, Jr., her parents, and her brother, Dr. George P. Turner, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Robert E. Batson (Susan), Richard T. Batson (Roxanne) and G. Brian Batson (Jan); five grandchildren, Michelle Long (Jeremy), Jennifer Sellers (Chad), William Batson, Michael Batson (Mary) and Sadie Storey (Eric); five great grandchildren, Molly, Emily, Leah, J.J., and Jacob; a nephew, Lee Batson (Michelle) and niece, Ann Siebert (Steve); great nieces and nephews, Chris, Thomas (Alanea), Maddie, Maggie, John and Ben. A graveside service will be held for Dot on Monday, March 8th at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery with Pastor Reid Crotty officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to United Methodist Children’s Home or to East Lake UMC Alter Guild.
