Dorothy Catherine Johnson Jan 11, 1930- July 27, 2014
Dorothy Catherine Johnson, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on July 27, 2014 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dottie (as she was known) grew up in New Orleans and had 11 brothers and sisters. She was swept off her feet after meeting her future husband Bill while dancing on the riverboat, The President. They married and over the next 40 years had 7 children together (six surviving) whom they both devoted all their love, time and energy raising. Both Bill and Dottie were equally passionate about their grandchildren until Bill passed in 1998.
Dottie was independent, opinionated and strong-willed and to the end, never hesitated to let you know how she felt about something. She loved bingo and New Orleans seafood - especially Zataran's spiced crawfish. She could easily out-eat people twice her size when a large, hot mound of fresh-cooked crawfish were dumped on a table in front of her.
Dottie was an active member of St Barnabas Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels helping senior citizens until her own health started failing.
Dottie is survived by her children, Bill, Dorothy, Wylie, Donald, David and Carolyn, semi-adopted daughter Anne Bowen-Long, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Barnabas Church at 10:00 a.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to St Barnabas Church
