Doris Duke Wood

Dr. Doris D. Wood, LPC, LMFT, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep the morning of Wednesday, July 22, 2020. Doris is survived by her husband David, daughter Susan, son Wayne (Jan), sister Nancy Damiani (Frank), grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends. Doris was a well-respected marriage and family counselor, as well as an author and artist. She graduated from Birmingham-Southern and UAB and earned her doctorate in Counselor Education from University of Alabama. Prior to the counseling career, Doris was a distinguished federal government Contract Administrator for Department of Defense. Always active in church work, Doris was a ladies’ Bible class teacher and occasionally spoke at Ladies’ Day events at churches. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 11 am at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville with visitation beginning at 10 am. Due to Covid-19, occupancy limits will be in place as well as all social distance precautions. Masks are required for entry. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. For those who cannot physically attend, the service will be livestreamed at palisadesfamily.net. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, www.disasterreliefeffort.org
