Doris Patterson

Doris Nell Patterson, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2023.

 

A loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, Doris was a devoted Christian and a 51-year member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. She attended the Alabama College at Montevallo where she met and married the love of her life in 1953, Charles, a veteran attending Montevallo on the GI Bill. Doris graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and taught Home Economics for several years until her first child was born.  In addition, she taught 5th grade Sunday School for many years, as she loved teaching throughout her life. She remained actively involved in Adult Sunday School and Senior Adult Ministries, and she and her loving husband were able to take many trips to places across the world, both in Europe and the United States.

 

Mrs. Patterson is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Charles Harold Patterson; her parents, Marie Ernestine German Nelson and Dewitt Talmage Nelson of Center Point; her brothers Raymond Nelson (Mary Frances) and Milton Nelson (Eileen). She is survived by her brother, Charles Nelson (Grace); her daughter Susan Patterson Altizer (Dennis) and son, Gregory Patterson (Karen); and two grandchildren, Amy Patterson and Brian Patterson (Jessy).

 

Doris is remembered for "keeping her children in the Word of God," and her strong commitment to teaching others to pursue a life led by Jesus.

 

A 1 PM visitation will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama, on Saturday, July 22, 2023, followed by a memorial service at 2 PM. Afterwards a Graveside service and interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetary.
