Donald "Donnie" Wayne McKay, age 56 of Union Springs and formerly
Trussville, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Virgil Lee McKay and Esther Parchman McKay.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicki Campbell McKay; his two
daughters, Anna McKay and Lindsay Hayes (William); and his two
grandsons, William Hayes, Jr. and James Hayes. He is also survived by
his sister, Terri Baugh (Ron), and his brother, Ron McKay (Victoria),
as well as many nieces and nephews. Donnie attended Erwin High School
and Jefferson State Community College, as well as the University of
Alabama at Birmingham. He retired from Kraft Foods where he worked for
27 years and has worked for Piggly Wiggly for the past two years. He
and his family are longtime members of Taylor Memorial United
Methodist Church.
Donnie, along with his wife Vicki, was an avid outdoorsman who loved
hunting, fishing, and working on the land where he lived in Union
Springs. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his friends
and family. Family was of utmost importance to him, and he especially
loved spending time with his two grandsons, ages 2 and 6 months.
Donnie possessed a kind and gentle spirit and was a humble,
compassionate Christian who shared his faith with those that were
fortunate enough to know and love him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 31 at
11:30AM with visitation starting at 9:30AM at Taylor Memorial United
Methodist Church on Sweeney Hollow Road in Clay with Reverend Todd
Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a
donation to the American Heart Association.
